Every Seedance 2.5 pricing comparison I read argues about motion quality. That is the wrong argument. Segmind and Fal both serve the same ByteDance weights through the same API contract, and after working through both pricing pages with a calculator, I found something more useful than a vibes-based quality debate: the two platforms bill on an identical token formula, and then charge wildly different rates against it. Fal charges $21.40 per million output tokens. Segmind charges $10.97. That is a 95% premium for bytes that come out of the same model.

What Seedance 2.5 actually is
Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's multi-shot video model. It generates up to 30 seconds in a single pass with synchronized native audio, from a text prompt, a first frame, reference images, or reference videos. On Segmind's Seedance 2.5 endpoint it is one synchronous POST that returns the MP4 directly, no polling.
The capability that matters is the 30 second single-pass length. Most video models cap at 5 to 10 seconds and force you to stitch, which means fighting continuity between clips. Seedance 2.5 holds a scene together across multiple shots internally.
The constraint that matters just as much: 2.5 tops out at 720p. The resolution enum is exactly two values, 480p and 720p. If you need 1080p or 4k, 2.5 cannot give it to you at any price, and I will come back to that later because it changes which model you should actually be buying.
Both platforms bill on the same formula
This is the part that makes an honest comparison possible. Fal publishes its token formula openly:
tokens = (output_height × output_width × duration_seconds × 24) / 1024Work that out for 720p 16:9, which is 1280x720: (1280 × 720 × 24) / 1024 = 21,600 tokens per second of video. Segmind's billing produces the same 21,600 tokens per second at 720p. Same pixel accounting, same 24fps assumption, same everything. The only variable left is the rate card.

Fal publishes $0.0214 per 1,000 tokens, which is $21.40 per million. Its video-reference rate is a 0.6x multiplier on that.
720p cost per clip, head to head
These are not estimates. Segmind's numbers below reproduce the worked examples on its own Seedance 2.5 pricing page to the cent, and Fal's reproduce the examples on its model pages to the cent.

The headline: one 30 second clip on Fal costs $13.87. The same 30 seconds on Segmind costs $7.12, and the $6.75 you did not spend buys you almost a second full clip. At a 95% rate premium, every Fal render is a coin flip you paid twice for.
A small oddity worth flagging if you are budgeting from Fal's page rather than its formula: Fal quotes roughly $0.4730 per second at 720p, but its own token math works out to $0.46224 per second. Its per-second summary overstates its own formula by 2.3%. Fal says the token formula is authoritative, so I used the formula for every number in this post. That is the charitable reading and Fal still comes out 95% more expensive.
480p, where the gap gets wider
480p is where high-volume teams live, and the two platforms do not agree on what 480p means. Segmind renders 16:9 at 854x480. Fal renders it at 864x496. Fal's canvas is 4.5% larger, so you get marginally more pixels, and because both bill per pixel you also pay for them.

At 480p the rate gap and the canvas gap compound: Segmind lands 50.6% to 50.9% cheaper.
Whether 4.5% more pixels at 480p is worth paying double is a judgment call, and I will make mine plainly: at 480p you are producing proxies, social cutdowns, and volume drafts. Nobody is grading those on 16 extra lines of vertical resolution.
What a 43 cent clip actually looks like
Abstract rate cards are easy to argue with, so here is the cheapest useful thing this model makes. I fired one 4 second 480p clip with audio on, the configuration at the top of that table, and this is the unedited result.

Seedance 2.5 at 480p, 4 seconds, audio on. Returned in 119 seconds as a 1.7 MB MP4 carrying both an H.264 video track and an AAC audio track. The same clip on Fal costs $0.86.
That is the floor of the pricing table, and it is a genuinely usable proxy shot with synchronized room tone. Note the audio track is present in the file: I asked for audio, got it, and paid nothing extra for it. That is true on both platforms, which makes it the one feature you should never let a vendor charge you for.
Video input and reference-to-video
Both platforms discount jobs that take a video as input, and remarkably they picked nearly the same discount. Segmind's video-input rate of $6.56 against $10.97 is a 0.598 multiplier. Fal applies a flat 0.6x for video references. The structure is the same, the base is not.
At 720p 16:9 that lands at roughly $0.14 per second of output on Segmind against roughly $0.28 on Fal, so the video-to-video path is 48.9% cheaper. One warning that applies to both: Fal's reference-to-video formula bills (input_video_duration + output_duration), so a long reference clip inflates a short output. Trim your references before you send them, on either platform.
What this costs at real volume
Per-clip pricing hides the damage. Here is the same comparison at production volume, which is where the decision actually gets made.

The MCN line is the one I would stare at. Five hundred short vertical clips a month is an ordinary content-factory workload, and the platform choice alone is $3,260 a year. That is not a procurement optimization, that is a headcount decision.
Budget retries on top of all three rows. Prompt iteration on video is not one-and-done, and a realistic multiplier is 1.3x to 1.5x of these figures on either platform.
The gotchas neither pricing page mentions
Three things I learned running this model that will not show up in any cost calculator:
Failed generations are free, so iterate on parameters fearlessly. Every rejected or errored job I have fired on Seedance 2.5 billed $0.00. Getting your parameter set right costs nothing but wall-clock.
Moderation can eat a finished render. Seedance 2.5 will occasionally complete a clip and then decline to release it on a content check, most often when the prompt names a music genre or an obvious franchise. It bills $0.00 when that happens, but you lose the wall-clock. Describe ambient sound instead of naming music, and write "no music" into prompts where you do not want a score.
Cost is deterministic, latency is not. Across 29 completed 720p runs on my own account, wall-clock ran from 77 seconds to 613 seconds with a median of about 164 seconds. Requested duration barely predicts it. Budget by cost, set your client timeouts above 600 seconds, and never build a synchronous user-facing flow on top of this without a queue.
